Where to Reconnect with Nature

It is a good day when you can go out and smell the roses. Houston may be a busy city but there are some hidden gems to visit. If you are ever in the mood to go outside and catch some rays of sunshine, you must visit these 3 places for hikes.

Just on the outskirts of Houston by I-10 and 610, there is the Memorial area. And here is where you can find two places to go for walks, Memorial Park and the Houston Arboretum. Memorial Park has a 3- mile long trail named The Seymour Lieberman Trail for walking and running. There are other paths for cycling. Also, for the months of September, October, and November, you can sign up for morning wellness walks.

On the other side of Memorial Drive, you can visit the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. It is a 5 - mile long set of network trails, with the Blackberry trail being the shortest trail, 0.07 miles, and the Outer Loop being the longest, 1.76 miles. They do offer Habitat Hikes, which is a self-guided hike that gives an insider look at the Arboretum. They include the trails to take and information about different areas within, as well as a playlist to listen to with different music to create a unique experience.

The last place to visit for a nature walk is Terry Hershey Park Hike and Bike Trail. Take a quick trip down I-10 and it's between Beltway 8 and Hwy 6. This trail is 10.7 miles, so you can walk, run, bike, and even fish. The trail has open areas, areas covered with trees, and also goes by the bayou. If you wish to go even further, you can hop onto a connecting trail, the George Bush Park Hike and Bike Trail, it adds on another 11 miles.

If you find yourself in a bad mood or just looking to do something outside, take a trip to one of the many hiking trails Houston has to offer.
